Biotechnology Thammasat

Biotechnology is the science of unraveling the secrets and utilization of living beings for improving the quality of human lives, the environment and the world. The biotechnology program of Thammasat University stands out in its production of skilled personnel in inventing and developing biotechnology who also possess entrepreneurial skills. Learning and practical exercises are provided through many subjects such as use of bacteria in fermentation and production of industrial biochemical products, tissue culture and plant strain improvements, solving environmental problems and utilization of agricultural and industrial wastes, including data analysis of life on the genome level by using bio-information technology.

Program Description

The Biotechnology program was created to produce quality people skilled in biotechnology in line with the economic structure which is transforming toward an “innovation-driven economy”. Students will learn every biotechnology subject ranging from basic biology to applications with emphasis on plant biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, and IT biotechnology. In order to create graduates who are prepared to face current global situations, the Biotechnology program provides instruction which emphasizes learning, analytical thinking, skill training, application of advanced modern sciences and technologies alongside creativity, development of knowledge on becoming production entrepreneurs with the purpose of ensuring that graduates become a well-prepared component in driving the nation toward becoming Thailand 4.0.

Graduates will gain experience in conducting research alongside skilled instructors with specialties covering various biotechnological fields in the laboratory setting with specialized tools for advanced research. Furthermore, the subject is located close to the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), and the institute’s researchers engage in excellent research and collaborations with the subject’s professors. Therefore, students will receive good opportunities to learn research processes alongside the researchers of the national institution and even opportunities to expand upon their knowledge on an industrial level.

Internships or Cooperative Education

Students will receive opportunities for internships at leading organizations in the public and private sectors within the country and abroad that are part of the network of the Faculty of Science and Technology (internship takes place during the summer semester of the third year or at the end of the first semester of the fourth year).

Further Studies

Further studies are possible in a Master of Science program in biotechnology and doctorate of science program in biotechnology and agricultural technology either at the Faculty of Science and Technology at Thammasat University or other leading academic institutions in the country or abroad.
